Tuesday, September 6 Today I gave out the timeline for the course.The syllabus is available here if you need it. These are my class expectations: Review class expectations. We then did an activity about opinions where students agreed/disagreed with statements. On TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 13 the worldview questions and article are due: Please work on reading the article and answering the questions. Look over the assignment this evening and come back tomorrow with any questions you might have.

Wednesday, September 7 Today we tried to define family together. Students received a pre and post reading handout. We discussed the six functions of a family, which we will dive more deeply into tomorrow.
Thursday, September 8 Today we worked on our Worldview Sire questions and we completed the post reading handout. We then worked on defining the six functions of a family and filled out this handout. Make sure this handout is completed for tomorrow.
Friday, September 9 Today we began the handout "History of Family"
sheet and read textbook pages 10-23. We got through the first few boxes and will finish on Monday. We then read and discussed an Article (while eating chocolate) for our first "Chew on THIS" Friday.
Monday, September 12: Don't forget to hand in the worldview questions tomorrow. Today we completed the Families in History handout and began watching a Modern Family episode. For those who were absent, be sure to get the accompanying handout tomorrow.
Tuesday, September 13: Today we finished watching the Modern Family episode and the Leave it to Beaver episode together. We took up the handout attached above. Tomorrow we have a quiz on the definition of family as well as the six functions of a family. Come prepared!
Wednesday, September 14 Today we took our quiz (which, by the way, if you were absent, you will take it on Tuesday when I return from Quebec). We then began a PPT on Theoretical Perspectives. The handout is here.
Thursday, September 15 Read an article on Generation Boomerang, filled out the accompanying handout, and began watching a documentary.
Friday, September 16 Today we finished the documentary (linked above) and began reviewing for our test on Monday, September 26. Worked with a partner to answer the questions on the review (textbook pages 56-57) and hand them in with the test. Knowledge and Understanding/Thinking: #4. Communication/Application: #11 a, b, c. #13. Study your notes for the remainder of the period with a partner.

Tuesday, September 20 Today we finished the PPT on theoretical perspectives, reviewed the studies of anthropology, sociology and psychology, and did a handout together about the theoretical perspectives. Pick this sheet up tomorrow if you were absent.
Wednesday, September 21 Today we received a review and a sheet with helpful terms to help us prepare for our TEST on Monday. Study your notes and the information on the review sheet. We began discussing adolescence/emerging adulthood by listening to NPR clips about manliness and masculinity.
Thursday, September 22 Today we listened to multiple NPR clips about females and femininity.
Friday, September 23 Today we discussed an article about 16 year olds driving and then finishing the movie "The Confirmation".
Monday, September 26: Today we had a test. If you were absent, be ready to take it tomorrow.
Tuesday, September 27: Today we began discussing our ISU. Phase 1 information
We then discussed gender bias in the presidential debates.
Wednesday, September 28: Today we read through some Rupi Kaur poetry and discussed them together. We watched a TED Talk on Vulnerability by Brene Brown. Students filled out the handout and must complete the terms on the second page for homework
Thursday, September 29 Today we began researching for our ISU. Students received a brainstorming sheet as well as an APA citation sheet. Be sure to hand these brainstorming sheets in on Monday if you didn't hand it in today.

Tuesday, October 4 Today we did a text-to-poll activity and reviewed different graphics which revealed facts about emerging adults. For homework, you must complete the backside of the emerging adults sheet.

Thursday, October 6 Today we worked on our ISU introductions for part of the class and read an article about gender in the Bible with an opposing perspective.
Friday, October 7 Today we worked on our ISU introductions and discussed an article for Chew on THIS Friday . No homework! ISU introduction due FRIDAY, OCTOBER 114.
Tuesday, October 11 Today we watched a TED Talk (TEDx Yale) on body language and then collaged the various genders in magazines that we read through.
Wednesday, October 12 Today we analyzed our collages and then reflected individually on four questions discussing gender. We then worked on our ISU introductions individually for the rest of class. These will be due on Friday! This is a hard deadline. Today we discussed exactly what the structure should be, so be sure to ask a peer/touch base with me tomorrow if you were absent.
Thursday, October 13 Today we learned about the pace of transition of emerging adulthood. We completed the first page of this handout and then all worked together on a PPT Presentation about each of the theorists. We will be presenting these tomorrow in class. Don't forget your introduction for your ISU is due tomorrow!
Friday, October 14 Today students handed in their introductions. After, they finished up working on their slides, each group presented their presentation to the class. Students filled in their handout, but the completed PPT is linked above.
Monday, October 17 Today we finished up our presentations and then worked through the backside of the sheet together, discussing relationships for emerging adults (124-126). TEST next Wednesday, October 26: Emerging Adults/Becoming an Adult.
Tuesday, October 18 Today we finished up the handout from two days ago. We read an article on homelessness, and then discussed its causes and effects. After, students received this handout. We worked through it individually. The backside is for homework. Read the POV and answer questions 1-3.
Wednesday, October 19 Today we took up POV questions and took a note on detecting and managing bias. After, we discussed Phase 2 of the ISU. Info is on the Google Classroom. Phase 2 is due Wednesday, Nov 2.
Thursday, October 20 Today we discussed research strategies and learned how to navigate the databases and library catalogue. After, students either studied for our test on Wednesday or began researching on the computers. Here is the review sheet.
Friday, October 26 Today we took a test. For those who need to finish on Monday (11's) and Tuesday (12's) I will give you class time. Please come with a different writing utensil.
Monday, October 31 Today we researched for Phase 2 of our ISU and those who needed to complete their tests did so.
Thursday, Nov 3 Today we created questions for our panel of teachers and then they came and spoke to our class and answered our couple relationships questions.
Friday, Nov 4 Students handed in Phase 2 of ISU. We had a chew on this article discussion.
Monday, November 5 Today we worked through this handout.
Tuesday, November 6 Today we discussed the media's impact and distortion of what love means. We read an article together and responded to it with an "I like, I wonder, I disagree with" activity. If you were absent, be sure to read it for tomorrow, as it will be necessary for the activity. Article: “Does media distort love?”
Wednesday, November 9 Today we finished the article discussion. Then students got into groups of two and found a TED Talk on romantic love/relationships. Come ready to share what you learned from the Talk, answering the questions that were on the board. A lined piece of paper or document will do. Like, dislike, short bio of speaker and a disagree with... statement.
Thursday, November 10 Today we got into groups are shared our TED Talks with another group. After this, we discussed as a class. Then we were put into partner groups. In these groups we came up with ten questions we would ask an interviewee about love/romantic relationships. This is practice for Phase 3.
Friday, November 11 Today we did speed dating with the questions we wrote yesterday. Self assessment form with learning goals to complete as well.

Wednesday, November 23 Today we read through two articles together: Kids Can't Tell Fake News from Real News and Millenial Hook Up Culture isn't as Pervasive as We Think, then we took up part of our handout and watched a video from a Catholic professor and researcher Donna Freitas.
Thursday, November 24 Today we did devotions together, took up the rest of the handout linked above, and then read the "In Focus" on page 226-227 and discussed.
Monday, November 28 We discussed interracial, interfaith and interethnic relationships and took a note.

Monday, December 12 Today students recieved their End of Unit Paragraph Questions: College & ELL copy and University copy. We discussed the "Point of View" on page 256 and had an interesting discussion about it.
Tuesday, December 13 Work peiod for Phase 4 of ISUs and end of unit questions.
Wedneday, December 14 We began watching a Documentary called "The Beginning of Life".

Monday, January 9 Today students worked on their fifth phase of the ISU. Presentations begin on Thursday. Here is the order in which you will present.

Wednesday, January 11 Snow day--a little less woohoo! This complicates things a bit for our presentation schedule, given that you have had less class time to work in partners. I will be giving you a little bit of time tomorrow at the beginning of class to get together with your partner and talk logistics. PLEASE connect with them before that point in time. I am hoping that we will still be able to go ahead with some of the presentations tomorrow, so I will be emailing a few of you shortly. I am hoping this break from school provides with you the time you need to prepare for your final assignments and your exams. See you tomorrow!
